This Omega Speedmaster is a hand-wound mechanical chronograph with aesthetics inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster that was worn on the Moon. The model features a steel bracelet with polished and brushed finishes, and a detail highly sought after by collectors: the ‘dot above 90’ on the black ceramic bezel ring.

On the wrist, the measurements help you decide: 42 mm case, 47.50 mm from lug to lug, 13.54 mm thick and 20 mm between lugs. Approximate weight: 142 g.

Dial design: Contrast, legibility and a nod to the Moonwatch

Omega details a dial construction with two plates: an upper plate chamfered in black varnish and lacquer, and a lower plate with subdials in white varnish and lacquer; in addition, the openings of the subdials have rhodium-plated inner faces. These are the kind of details that cannot be appreciated in a quick photo, but which elevate the piece when held in the hand.

The heart of this Omega Speedmaster watch is the OMEGA calibre 3861: a hand-wound chronograph with Co-Axial escapement and Master Chronometer certification approved by METAS. The power reserve is 50 hours, and the manual indicates a frequency of 3 Hz.

  • Certified performance: The Master Chronometer standard includes tests related to precision, magnetism, power reserve and water resistance.

The crystal is scratch-resistant sapphire with anti-reflective treatment on the inside. In this model, Omega also specifies sapphire for the transparent caseback.

Speedmaster Moonwatch: Real-world use and how to care for it

Water resistance is rated at 5 bar (50 metres). The manual emphasises that water resistance is not ‘forever’: annual checks are recommended and the crown and pushers should not be manipulated underwater.

This is a watch to be enjoyed as part of a ritual: manual winding and chronograph with start/stop and reset pushers (do not reset while the chronograph is running). The tachymeter allows you to estimate speed by measuring the time taken to cover 1 km and reading the scale.
